Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families
Welcome to my practice. Therapy can be of great benefit to individuals, couples and families. It can reduce distress, improve relationships and solve problems. Research indicates that people who benefit most are those who are willing to look honestly at themselves and who are willing to modify ways of thinking or behaving. Psychotherapy is different than visiting a medical doctor in that the treatment requires a very active effort on your part. In order to be most successful, it is important for clients to be willing to work between sessions, for example, completing a questionnaire, observing situations to gather information, or trying out a new way of communicating.
In my practice, I use well-recognized models and methods to create a personalized treatment. I work well with school-age kids, teens, adults and older individuals. With a balance of compassion and the ability to challenge, I help my clients make positive changes in their lives, create closer and more satisfying connections with others, and resolve problems.
In individual therapy, I work with my clients to identify problems, expand self-awareness, and deepen understanding of distressing feelings or symptoms. I offer practical feedback to improve coping, decrease symptoms, and strengthen skills in managing feelings, relating to others, or dealing with life's challenges.
In couples therapy, I help couples work through their obstacles to closeness and intimacy by creating stronger, safer, more responsive connections with each other and by teaching important relationship and communication skills.
In family therapy, I help parents improve their parenting skills and provide a safe place for parents and children to talk about difficult subjects and events -- such as school problems, divorce, remarriage, or illness. Meeting with families, I help identify the strengths of the family, work to mobilize a family's existing resources to find solutions, and teach skills to improve understanding and cooperation. Sometimes, families are torn apart by events or misunderstandings. In these situations, I work with family members to repair relationship ruptures.
